Nepotism in Bollywood is nothing new. When anyone talks about nepotism we instantly link it to the Bollywood because the nepotism in Bollywood is very open and it's openly operating in front of everyone's eye. They can't hide this even if they want. There is a set formula which Bollywood is using to launch Star kids since long. A big production house, a savage hero who always fights for truth and love, an actress who has no personal life but just born to give full support to hero, a villain who never do anything good and always take evil decisions, a typical so many times repeated script where hero defying laws of gravity and physics during fight sequences. Usually, Bollywood launches the big star kids with such type of dumb scripts and they get successful in it because they know our audience always leave their mind at home before watching any Bollywood movie so it's an assumption that they don't need to work on the story, character development, acting of star kid etc. Now let me tell you a funny thing, watch any of the interviews of these star kids when they asked about how they got this particular role in a movie they shamelessly say that they did the audition and got selected in it. I mean seriously? None of your connection works? But the more disappointing fact is they actually take an audition for those roles which they have already given to a star kid. Now imagine you are preparing for a job interview which is kind of your dream job and you preparing day in day out for it but then you find out the job has already been given to a Boss's relative and your interview is nothing less than a formality to reject you. There is a lobby which works on the promotion of star kids and the media plays a big role in promoting them. We don't need to look for many examples. Taimur Ali Khan is getting promoted by media from the day he was born. Media don't feel any shame in reporting which colour underwear Taimur was wearing today. What is this? Do people really interested in knowing this? Maybe No but the real reason is they want to paste this name into your mind because this name soon will be in a Bollywood movie and just because you are already familiar with this name he will automatically get a response when he will get launched in a movie. Bollywood's nepotism is very common but does Bollywood is the only place where nepotism exists? NO, let's talk about some other fields where nepotism became cancer with no cure.
Politics- Well I don't need to explain this term in politics because it's as open in politics as Bollywood. Let me tell you a story of a boy, he was born into a rich family and was very bad in academics. He somehow passed class 9th and then left studies. He told his father that he wants to be a cricketer. His father understood him and made his selection possible in the state team due to his jack. Though his cricket career wasn't going well because his father's jack supported him in selection but his talent wasn't supporting him in the field. His father didn't lose hope in his Son and made him get to join an IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils and he was part of the team for 4 seasons but hardly got any chance to play. His father was still hopeful and he asked his son to leave cricket and try your talent in some other field. He agreed to his father and then he became Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Well, this is not some inspiring story but an embarrassing story that how a person who was not competent to play cricket eaten a place of a deserved candidate both in cricket and politics. He had no experience of politics still became the deputy chief minister only because of his father. What could be a bigger example of nepotism than this? Yes, I am talking about Tejaswi Yadav the son of former chief minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav. A major political party of India who ruled for the most of the years since independence now looks like a personal party of a family. Do Competent people only bear in the Gandhi family? No other person in such big political party is that capacity to become the head of Indian National Congress? This is what nepotism is. Now if we are talking about congress it won't be justified to leave BJP too when it comes to nepotism. Jay Shah is the secretary of BCCI and if you try to search about what hard work he did in cricket or sports to achieve this big position you will get only one answer. He was born as the son of Amit Shah who is our Home minister.
Government offices - Now let me tell you another story. A story of warriors. A particular community who was so talented that they took up all the top official posts in a state. The politics of Uttar Pradesh had always been like a tug of war. Before the current government, it was a competition between two political parties. S.P and B.S.P both are known for their vote bank politics and in Uttar Pradesh, even today Caste system is very severe in deciding the elections. During the rule of S.P, there was a term which got into the news which was "Yadavnisation of UP jobs" especially UP Police jobs. Nearly 60% of police stations were headed by Yadav officers. In Badaun, where two minor girls were raped and hanged, 16 out of 22 police stations were headed by Yadav officers. Badaun was represented by then chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s cousin Dharmendra Yadav in the Lok Sabha. As a matter of fact, the demographic profile of UP’s 1,527 police stations and outposts was changed in two years, when SP came to power. In Kanpur, for instance, Yadavs head as many as 25 police stations out of 36. In Lucknow, more than 50% of station officers were Yadavs. This is also a big example of Nepotism.
When we talk about nepotism we always say how bad it is and how it should never be promoted. But when we get a job or work done through our relatives or friends working at a higher position in any department we never feel the same wrong about ourselves instead we kind of show off this to others like ' look how high contacts I have in the government office. I don't need to wait for hours like others to get my work done' we say this proudly and don't realize this is also a kind of nepotism. Nepotism doesn't only mean favouring our children or relatives it also means favouring a particular person over others and giving an unfair advantage to a person over other. Every time we get a job through a recommendation and not upon merit we just promoted nepotism and every time nepotism is getting promoted we are eating a place of a deserved candidate. It is part of our self. The thing is it is not as open as it's there in Bollywood and politics but we all are participants in this somewhere. Only a poor person with no contacts, no opportunity, no support is free from nepotism. so if we really want to get rid of nepotism we need to start with ourself first.
